Car recalls: Why they happen and what buyers should know
Why do car recalls happen? Here’s what to know if your car has an open recall.
More than 43,000 Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac vehicles are being recalled by General Motors, according to a notice posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall for the three General Motors brands is due to a fault in the cars’ transmission control valve, which the notice says “may fail and lock up the rear wheels,” increasing the risk of a crash.
Owners of impacted vehicles are expected to receive notification letters on March 30, according to the notice. Impacted cars will get new transmission control module software installed free of charge.

According to the notice, a total of 43,732 Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac vehicles are included in the recall:
- 2022 Cadillac Escalade
- 2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV
- 2022 Chevrolet Suburban
- 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe
- 2022 GMC Yukon
- 2022 GMC Yukon XL
