Newcastle United have a concrete interest in Wolves’ Hugo Bueno ahead of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.
The Magpies are targeting the 23-year-old left-back to provide cover and competition for Lewis Hall, whose regular injuries are a concern for the club.
Sources say scouts are keeping a close eye on former Spain Under-21 international Bueno and he is a top target for them in the final months of the season.
Football Insider exclusively revealed that a new left-back will be a priority for Newcastle in the main summer window as they lay the groundwork for potential signings.
Who is Hugo Bueno?
Bueno has emerged as Wolves’ first-choice left-back this season and has been one of the few players who have impressed.
The defender joined the Old Gold side in 2019 and progressed through their academy before making his debut in 2022.

After struggling for consistent game time, he was loaned out to Feyenoord last season, where he helped the side reach the round of 16 in the Champions League.
Since returning to Molineux, he has played 26 times in all competitions this campaign and made headlines on Wednesday for a fabulous goal against Arsenal, as Wolves came back to draw 2-2.

Possessing the ability to play left-back and left-wing-back, Bueno is seen as one of Rob Edwards’ best upcoming players as they prepare for the Championship.
As a result, Wolves penned him down to a new deal in November 2023, which is set to last until 2028, with the defender having an increasing amount of importance at Molineux.
What are Bueno’s stats this season?
Despite Wolves’ struggles this season, Bueno has still managed to produce many impressive stats in the Premier League this season.
According to Fotmob on 21 February, the left-back has averaged, 2.53 tackles, 1.46 interceptions, 2.37 clearances and 4.80 recoveries per game.
On top of this, he is also influential in attack, making 2.05 successful crosses, 1.35 chances created and a 0.12 xA.

As a result, if he is placed in a team full of better quality players, such as Newcastle’s, there is a chance that Bueno could develop further and even shine in the Premier League.
However, it remains to be seen if Wolves would be willing to part with Bueno in the summer as they look to bounce straight back into the Premier League, with their relegation to the Championship pretty much ensured this season.
