UFC Houston video: Referee blunder leads to violent Joselyne Edwards finish

Nora Cornolle had a rough go Saturday in Houston.

During her UFC Fight Night 267 bout, Cornolle (9-4 MMA, 3-3 UFC) was stunned, injured and choked into submission by Joselyne Edwards (17-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC) for a stoppage at 2:44 of Round 2.

The finishing sequence began with a big slam from Edwards. Although Cornolle appeared significantly disoriented from the impact, referee Jacob Montalvo allowed the fight to continue. Edwards blasted Cornolle with more punches. Edwards looked up at Montalvo as Cornolle’s head flopped around unresponsive. When no referee stoppage came, Edwards eventually took her back.

There, Edwards locked in a rear-naked choke and got the tap from Cornolle, who rolled over into the fetal position after Montalvo finally saved her.

Cornolle was unable to stand for the decision as she clutched her arm in apparent injury. Even after Edwards left the cage and the lights dimmed for the walkouts of Alden Coria vs. Luis Gurule, Edwards remained on the stool.

With the win, Edwards extends her winning streak to four. She entered Saturday’s bout off victories over Tamires Vidal, Chelsea Chandler, and Priscila Cachoeira.
