Andrew Scott battles the British weather in dramatic trailer for “tense” real-life thriller

Pressure, the upcoming real-life thriller starring Andrew Scott and Damian Lewis, has unveiled its gripping trailer. With a stacked cast and a remarkable true story at its centre, could this be one of the biggest hits of 2026?

The film sees Scott portray James Stagg, a meteorologist working for the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. As the Allies prepare their invasion of Europe in 1944, Stagg is tasked with compiling a weather report ahead of D-Day.

Boasting a supporting cast including Kerry Condon and Brendan Fraser, the latter of whom portrays US president Dwight D Eisenhower, the first trailer for the historical drama has been released ahead of its theatrical release later this year.

The clip depicts Stagg’s attempts to convince the hierarchy that a pair of storms are on the way, though he faces discontent from those above him as the clock ticks. He warns that the “wrath of nature is real”, but will they listen to him?

The film has been co-written by Anthony Maras and David Haig, the latter of whom adapts his 2014 stage play of the same name. Maras, who garnered acclaim for his 2018 film Hotel Mumbai, is also directing.

Pressure is due to be released in the US on 29 May, but UK audiences will have to wait longer as the thriller isn’t due to hit the big screen for three-and-a-half months from that point, with its release here scheduled for 9 September.

“In the 72 hours leading up to D-Day, all the pieces are in place except for one key element – the British weather,” reads the logline for the historical thriller (via StudioCanal).

“Britain’s chief meteorological officer James Stagg is called upon to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership. The wrong conditions could devastate the largest ever seaborne invasion, while any delay risks German intelligence catching on.

“With only his trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby (Condon) to confide in, and haunted by a catastrophic D-Day rehearsal, the final decision rests with Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D Eisenhower. With only hours to go, the fate of the war and the lives of millions hang in the balance.”

Pressure is released in the UK on 9 September, and 29 May in the US.
