Génesis Rodríguez joins ‘The Night Agent’ for Season 3

Génesis Rodríguez is stepping into the high-stakes world of The Night Agent as journalist Isabel in Season 3, bringing both emotional depth and fearless determination to the hit Netflix series.

In the latest season of the political thriller, Isabel finds herself pulled into a dangerous investigation that quickly becomes personal. What begins as a routine meeting with Treasury agent Jay, played by Suraj Sharma, leads her into the orbit of night agent Peter Sutherland, portrayed by Gabriel Basso. Along the way, Isabel uncovers shocking truths about her estranged father, Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum), whose secret life places her directly in harm’s way.

In a recent interview, Rodriguez revealed that she didn’t know about the major twist surrounding Isabel’s parentage when she first joined the series.

“No, I found out kind of as you guys did. I found out, I think, in Episode 3,” she said. “It was just really interesting because I think it doesn’t really matter that I didn’t know because there was no real father-daughter relationship there… When I found out, I was like, ‘No! The audience is going to lose their mind because you’d never expect it.’”

The revelation that Jacob is Isabel’s father becomes even more tragic when he is killed by Adam (David Lyons) on orders from the president (Ward Horton). Despite their strained relationship, Rodriguez said the loss carries deep emotional weight.

“That’s the thing. I feel that every relationship, every parent-child dynamic, no matter how flawed it is, I think there’s always this hope that it could be different,” she explained. “I think what she’s mourning more so is the relationship that could have been.”

One of the season’s most touching moments comes when Isabel hopes a cipher will reveal that her father once tried to reconnect.

“She wanted it so bad, she wanted it so bad to be her,” Rodriguez said. “You’re always waiting for that moment for someone to be like, I messed up. I love you, and I want to change for you.”

As Isabel partners with Peter, trust doesn’t come easily—but it grows through shared danger.

“I think because they’re both after the same thing,” Rodriguez said. “He was so quick to protect her that she immediately just fell in… she agreed to work with him, but on her conditions and her terms.”

She added that playing such a strong, principled character was especially meaningful.

“She’s such a strong woman and such an intelligent woman, and it was just so refreshing to read that off the page and to be able to play her like that.”

Throughout Season 3, Isabel repeatedly risks her life to expose corruption, including a tense confrontation with Freya. Rodriguez connected this bravery to the real-world role of journalists.

“What’s beautiful about journalists, which should be protected at all costs right now, is that they’re willing to go through all of these types of circumstances for the truth,” she said. “If I don’t risk my life doing this, then what’s the point?”

Looking ahead, Rodriguez joked about what Isabel deserves after everything she’s endured.

“First of all, if she doesn’t win some sort of Pulitzer, right? [Laughs]” she said. “But she’s definitely with a cocktail in Barcelona for a bit… after maybe two weeks, she gets antsy and she’s like, I need to go back to work.”

She also reflected on whether Isabel and Jacob could have ever repaired their relationship.

“I think that if he would’ve come clean with everything… I think there would’ve been a chance,” she said. “The parent-child dynamic is always hoping for repair.”

As for the future, Rodriguez hopes viewers haven’t seen the last of Isabel.

“Oh my goodness. First of all, I would love for us to see Isabel again,” she said. “I just really liked the dynamic between her and Peter… a female and a male can be just partners and not have that.”

With her layered performance and thoughtful approach to Isabel’s story, Rodriguez has made a strong impression in her Night Agent debut. Whether uncovering conspiracies or navigating complicated family ties, her character brings heart and resilience to the series’ explosive third season.
