UPDATE: Woman, child killed in train-vehicle crash, authorities say

UPDATE: Authorities have identified the victims killed in this morning’s train crash.
They are 31-year-old Brittany Williams and her 8-year-old daughter. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, according to Blake Brown with Mobile’s Department of Public Safety.
Police and fire crews responded to the accident at the railroad crossing near Cary Hamilton Road around 6:51 a.m.
According to Brown, officers determined that the audible signal, flashing lights and crossing arms were functioning properly at the time of the crash. After the crash, the train traveled about 2,100 feet before it was able to come to a stop, he said.
No injuries were reported on the train, he said.

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Yet another tragedy involving an Amtrak train in Mobile and a vehicle.
Mobile Police and fire officials say a train was involved in an accident with a vehicle this morning on Bellingrath Road near Peary Road.
Authorities say two people in the vehicle were killed.
Mobile Police cars lined up at the intersection of Bellingrath Road and the railroad tracks early Saturday morning.
You could see the train behind trees a short distance away.
Steven Millhouse with Mobile Fire-Rescue says, “Just before 7:00 this morning, a single vehicle was struck by an Amtrak train. The Mobile Police department is investigating how it happened in the area of Bellingrath Road. What we know right now is two confirmed deceased, passengers in the vehicle.”
Mobile Fire-Rescue officials say CSX officials were also on hand reviewing the incident.
Millhouse said, “No injuries reported from the passengers on the train. We don’t have any idea of how many passengers there are on the train.”
And there was no immediate world on the circumstances involving the accident.
“Devastating, of course, to the families once they are notified and for the community itself.”
As of now, there is no confirmation from authorities that the train was the Amtrak Mardi Gras Service which operates between Mobile and New Orleans.
FOX 10 News has reached out to Amtrak for information, but we haven’t heard back yet.
UPDATE: 10:40 a.m. From MPD: The tracks have been cleared, but it’s unknown if the passenger train will continue on the initial route at this time.

ORIGINAL STORY: Mobile police say two people inside of a vehicle died when the vehicle was hit by a train.
MPD says the train hit a car this morning on Bellingrath Road near Peary Road.
MPD and MFRD are both working the accident.
They’re asking motorists to avoid and the area and expect delays.
Also, the St. Elmo-Irvington Fire Department posted on its Facebook page a traffic alert, saying the railroad crossing at Irvington Bayou La Batre Hwy & Hwy 90 is currently shut down due to CSX making repairs.
