Bayern stance on Fernandes revealed

Manchester United may look to sell Bruno Fernandes this summer as part of a midfield rebuild, but Bayern Munich are unlikely to make a move for the Portuguese talisman.According to Caughtoffside, the 31-year-old could be offloaded in order to reinvest in the squad. Manuel Ugarte could also be sold, while Casemiro has already confirmed he will be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Bayern have been linked with a move for Fernandes in the past, and the Bavarians are set to lose midfielder Leon Goretzka on a free transfer in the summer when his contract expires.

CFBayernInsider claim the player’s high wages mean he is not yet being considered by Vincent Kompany, however, with United’s reported £87 million asking price contributing to the Bundesliga champions cooling their interest.

Were Fernandes to arrive at the Allianz Arena, his preferred No. 10 role may also impact on the development of wonderkid Lennart Karl, who has impressed during his breakthrough season under Kompany.

The report reads: “Last summer, Fernandes was linked with moves to clubs in the Saudi Pro League, but he decided to remain in the Premier League.

“The 20-time Premier League champions are looking to bolster their midfield next summer, and they have been linked with several players already.

“Ideally, Man Utd [would] love to keep him at the club, but they also realise that this is their best chance to cash in on the 31-year-old midfielder.”

Alvarez wants Barca move

Sports journalist Hugo Balassone has told Mundo Deportivo that Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez will join Barcelona after this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

Alvarez arrived in the Spanish capital from Premier League giants Manchester City in the summer of 2024.

The 26-year-old Argentina international has had a difficult season by his own high standards, producing 13 goals and six assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.

Balassone says that Alvarez wants to challenge for trophies at this stage of his career.

“My information is that Julian Alvarez is going to play for Barcelona. There was interest from Arsenal,” read the article.

“His cycle at Atletico de Madrid is complete. His season has not been good, despite scoring a goal.

“He believes that his career needs a team that can give him a title. The stimulus for Julian is to go to a team that can be champions.

“It is true that Atletico de Madrid can win the Copa del Rey, but it has not been the expected step.

“Julian Alvarez, I can confirm this, after the World Cup he is going to play in one of the best teams in the world.

“Can you imagine [Lamine] Yamal and Julian together in attack?”

Ancelotti to stay on as Brazil manager

Carlo Ancelotti has told Movistar that he expects to sign a new deal that will see him remain in his role as head coach of the Brazilian national team for another four years.

Ancelotti took the role in May 2025, signing a one-year deal that would have seen him leave after the climax of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, the USA and Mexico.

Despite having a successful career at club level, Ancelotti insists that he is enjoying life on the international stage.

“I think I’m going to renew for four years with Brazil,” he said. “It’s a new job. I like it a lot.”

Sargent close to Norwich departure

Florian Plettenberg says that Norwich striker Josh Sargent is on the verge of joining Major League Soccer side Toronto FC.

Sargent has found the back of the net eight times in 24 appearances across all competitions this term and has also provided three assists.

The USA international has been linked with a move away from England for some time, and now Plettenberg believes he is close to completing a €20 million (£17.5m) deal with the Canadian club.

“Josh Sargent to Toronto – DONE DEAL,” he posted on X, formerly Twitter.

“Toronto have reached a verbal agreement with Norwich. The 26 y/o striker is flying in today for his medical.

“The transfer fee is around €20 million. #Sargent was very keen on the move to the MLS.”

Barca strengthen release clauses

French outlet RMC Sport have said that Barcelona will “strengthen” the release clauses included in the contracts of their brightest young stars in response to Paris Saint-Germain signing Dro Fernandez.

The 18-year-old joined the Ligue 1 club in January for a reported transfer fee of just €8.2 million, much to the disappointment of the La Liga giants.

Fernandez has since made his debut for PSG, coming off the bench during their 5-0 triumph over Marseille.

RMC Sport say Fernandez signed a contract with Barca before the changes could be implemented.

“Barca has strengthened its system of release clauses to avoid losing young players developed at La Masia for cheap,” read the article.

“Signed by Paris Saint-Germain during the winter transfer window, Dro Fernandez had already signed his contract with the Catalan club before this measure was implemented.

“Otherwise, the Spaniard would have cost the Parisian club considerably more.”
