Tracking CT snowstorm that may impact Wednesday morning commute

On the heels of a record-setting blizzard, much of Connecticut is facing another round of snow on Wednesday morning, likely affecting the morning commute across the state. Here’s what the latest data shows for this next threat for snow.

Light snow will start across the state between 3 and 6 a.m. Wednesday. While the intensity of the snow will almost be laughably weak compared to the massive blizzard we just saw, this round of light to moderate snow could lead to slippery roads and reduced visibility during the morning commute.

There could be some rain or sleet mixing in along the shoreline, especially in the southeastern corner of the state. With how much snow that area just saw (some towns got up to 30 inches), any rain or wintry mix could lead to slushy conditions on any road that hasn’t been fully cleared.

Snow and wintry mix will taper off from west to east across the state around noontime, with dry weather filling in for the afternoon. There could be a spotty rain/snow shower later on Wednesday afternoon, but little to no impact is expected from that.

Across the state, 1 to 3 inches of snow is likely from this frontal system on Wednesday morning.

Snow events like this are typically moisture-starved, so there isn’t any real chance that this could turn into a major snowfall for the state.

Yes, it appears there will likely be somewhat widespread school delays, but closings are much less likely. That said, the decision lies with the administrators of each school district.

I’m hearing about more snow in the forecast after Wednesday. When will it end?

Yes, there is another chance of snow on Thursday afternoon, and a bigger threat early next week. While it’s only a couple of days away, Thursday’s snow chance is still uncertain due to disagreements among forecast models, but I’m leaning towards minimal impacts from this potential storm.

The bigger threat next week has been showing up on forecast models for next Tuesday, and it could bring another heavy thump of snow to the state. Before you head to the grocery store for more milk and bread, I want to stress that this is still a week away and a lot can change in that time. However, with the way this winter has been so far, I don’t want to rule out any snow threat until it passes.
