A bonkers 37.9 inches of snow hit this Northeast city. How that happened.

A nearly incomprehensible amount of snow fell on Providence, much of Rhode Island and the surrounding region late Sunday through Monday. The city recorded 37.9 inches at T.F. Green International Airport, its official observation location. The tally demolished its old snowstorm maximum of 28.6 inches from the Blizzard of 1978 and may set a new state record.
