How satisfied are you with what Gov. Whitmer has promised versus what she’s delivered?

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will deliver her final State of the State address on Wednesday night, laying out her priorities as her final term is up at the end of the year.
Gov. Whitmer made several promises to Michiganders in her election and re-election campaigns, from “fixing the damn roads,” to boosting electric vehicle use and updating civil rights laws.
Some of the most major actions under Gov. Whitmer have been road funding packages passed in the 2025 budget, red flag and safe storage gun laws, a distracted driving law and a ban on smart phones in classrooms.
Under her leadership Michigan repealed its long-standing abortion ban and the legislature expanded the Elliot-Larsen Civil Rights Law to add more work and housing protections for LGBTQ+ Michiganders. In 2023, $160 million was invested in the state’s school aid budget to provide all public schools students with free breakfast and lunch.
Only two years ago, Gov. Whitmer predicted Michigan would dominate EV battery manufacturing for the country by 2030 with private investments for EV infrastructure like assembly plants and battery manufacturing. In 2023, Business Facilities ranked Michigan number one in the country for automotive manufacturing and EV investment.
In 2026, however, Gov. Whitmer has not been able to achieve a tax rebate for EVs and a downward shift in the market has Michigan seeing a change in trajectory.
