FBI Raids Home & Office Of LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho

The FBI is conducting raids on the home and office of Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, Deadline has confirmed. The nature of the investigation is not known.
According to an FBI statement provided to Deadline, agents are executing court-authorized warrants at the locations, but the affidavits have been sealed by the court and the agency had no further comment.
The news comes word earlier this week that the Los Angeles School Board had approved $250 million in bonds to settle sex abuse claims. That is on top of $500 million authorized less than a year ago to fund payouts to victims.
Additionally last week, the LAUSD Board approved up to 657 layoffs to partially address a structural budget deficit. Carvalho warned that the district could face insolvency in three years without major reductions.
Last year, a group of LAUSD students and former district Superintendent Austin Beutner filed a lawsuit accusing the district and Carvalho of misuging $76.7M in Proposition 28 funds dedicated for art and music education.
The district has denied any wrongdoing. LAUSD said in a statement when the lawsuit was filed that “we continue to follow implementation guidance as provided by the state of California to ensure that we are fully with the requirements of Prop. 28.”
