WATCH: Drift Record Shop in Totnes says goodbye after 20 years in South Devon

Independent music retailer Drift Record Shop has announced it will close at the end of February, bringing to an end two decades on Totnes High Street.

Founder Rupert Morrison said the decision had been carefully considered and was made “on our terms”.

In a statement shared with customers, he described the closure as “the start of goodbye” and said he was proud of what the business had achieved.

The Totnes shop and driftrecords.com will continue trading as normal until Saturday 28 February.

All pre-orders will be fulfilled through March and the following months.

As part of its final programme of events, the shop hosted a live in-store performance from acclaimed singer-songwriter Bill Callahan, who played to a packed audience ahead of the release of his new album.

Mr Morrison also confirmed he will be joining the team at Resident Music in Brighton, describing the move as an opportunity to combine experience and strengthen independent music retail.

Drift Records has built a national reputation within the indie music sector, including through its collaborative Dinked Editions releases.
