Christian Bale Says Fans Shouldn’t Meet Him: ‘What a Disappointment’

Christian Bale shared a playful comment on why his fans shouldn’t bother meeting him during an interview at The Bride‘s premiere. He was asked if he ever tried to play it cool when meeting another celebrity. He advised that while people love actors for the movies they do, reality hits differently. This is because he can see the “disappointment” in fans’ eyes when they meet him. Therefore, he warned everyone not to meet their heroes, adding he doesn’t meet his either.

In a conversation with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of The Bride! premiere, he was asked if he ever tries to act cool when he meets his favorite actors or celebrities. He reveals that he doesn’t act cool and also doesn’t prefer to see the actors he sees in movies in real life.

Citing the reason why he doesn’t want to meet his heroes, he explained, “I see it in people’s eyes when they’ve watched my movies and loved them, and then they meet me, and I see their eyes, that terrible disappointment about who I really am. And it’s true, what a disappointment. That’s me at my best in the movie.”

He jokingly advised people not to meet their heroes and revealed that he follows the same rule himself. Concluding his remark, he said, “They’re heroic in what they do. But you know, give them a break. Nobody can be a hero all the time.”

The upcoming Gothic romance movie takes place in 1930s Chicago. It follows Frankenstein’s monster asking scientist Dr. Euphronious to make a companion for him. Fulfilling his wish, the scientist brings to life a murdered woman called “The Bride.” Her resurrection sparks unimaginable events, law intervention, and an unexpected romance. Apart from Bale, the cast includes Jessie Buckley, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz, among others.
