Why Dwayne Johnson Credits Meeting Wife Lauren Hashian to ‘the Power of the Universe’

THE RUNDOWN

  • Dwayne Johnson’s wife, Lauren Hashian, is a singer-songwriter.
  • The couple quietly married in 2019 after more than a decade together.
  • They share two daughters, Jasmine and Tia.

Dwayne Johnson has spent decades in the public eye, and his wife, Lauren Hashian, is no stranger to the limelight herself with her own music career.

Hashian is a singer-songwriter who has released her own music and co-written songs featured in films. She has spoken in past interviews about balancing music and motherhood. While she keeps a lower profile than Johnson, she will occasionally join her longtime partner at major events, including the 2026 Golden Globes.

Here’s everything to know about Hashian and her life with Johnson.

She met Johnson while he was working on The Game Plan.

Hashian and Johnson first crossed paths in 2006, when she was working as an event planner at a party connected to one of Johnson’s films, per WSJ. Magazine. They began dating the following year.

In a December 2019 interview with WSJ. Magazine, Johnson reflected on the timing of their relationship.

“At the time, I was going through my breakup with Dany [Garcia] and she was just coming off a big breakup, too,” he said. “Ironically, when you’re not looking for something, the power of the universe kind of takes over.”

She and Johnson started a family before she began releasing her own music.

The couple welcomed their first daughter, Jasmine, in December 2015, followed by their second daughter, Tiana, in April 2018. In interviews, Hashian has said that becoming a mother marked a turning point in her confidence as an artist.

“I was too shy of a kid, and I really wasn’t not shy until…I became a mother,” she told Billboard in a December 2021 interview. “And then I felt way more confident in my own body and my own feelings.”

She grew up in Massachusetts in a musical household.

Hashian was raised in Massachusetts by her parents, Sib and Suzanne Hashian. Her father was the longtime drummer for the rock band Boston. In a December 2021 interview with Billboard, Hashian spoke about growing up surrounded by music and how her father’s discipline shaped her own work ethic.

“Even after his band had already split up, he practiced every single day of his life in the drum room,” she said. “Seeing him practice every day, for me, it became part of my purpose—‘He practices every day, I should practice every day, too.’”

She went to Emerson College.

Hashian attended Emerson College in Boston, where she studied public relations and communications. While there, she became part of a small circle of student musicians who recorded music out of their dorm rooms. In an October 2018 interview with Coveteur, she recalled how that environment encouraged her to experiment creatively.

“There was a group of kids that went to the same school as me—to Emerson College in Boston,” she said. “We formed this little collective and started turning our dorm rooms into recording studios.”

She credited a campus awards competition with helping her take her songwriting seriously for the first time.

“There was a [school] show called The Emmy Awards, and it was a version of the Grammys or the Emmy Awards. Myself and this kid who called himself ‘Reality’ recorded a song—we ended up winning the award that year,” she said. “That’s when I thought, ‘OK, maybe I should start seriously looking into this.’”

She initially worked behind the scenes in the music industry.

After graduating, Hashian did not immediately pursue a career as a recording artist. Instead, she worked as a creative sync coordinator at Warner Music Group and later in the music department at Paramount Pictures, according to her LinkedIn profile.

She eventually released her own music.

Hashian started recording her own music in the late 2010s. Her work includes the 2016 single “Go Hard,” the 2020 single “Ride The Wave,” collaborations with artists like Naz Tokio, and her 2021 EP Love…And Other Things (Side A).

She described her musical influences in her 2018 Coveteur interview.

“I’ve always been drawn to the same type of music: beautiful R&B music,” she said. “Being born in the ’80s and growing up in the ’90s, we had the best classic R&B groups—that’s when R&B was at its pinnacle.”

She has contributed to music tied to Johnson’s films.

In addition to her solo work, Hashian has collaborated on music connected to Johnson’s film projects. She co-wrote the song “On The Run” by Naz Tokio, which appears during the end credits of Red Notice. She also directed the music video for Eric Zayne’s “Exile,” which was featured in Black Adam.

In her Billboard interview, Hashian said that Johnson is often the first person to hear her music.

“Most of the time when I’m making music, he is the very first person who hears anything,” she said. “He’s heard the good, the bad, the ugly.”

“I know a lot of people look up to him, but even I look up to him, and I trust his judgment and his instincts and his experiences,” Hashian added. “So for me, I’m so grateful that I have somebody like him, who’s also been in the business for so long, to give me his feedback and also work together.”

She and Johnson share two daughters.

The couple has two daughters together: Jasmine and Tiana. Hashian has discussed balancing parenting with creative work in past interviews.

“We travel so much for work. We’re moving sometimes five or six times a year,” she told Coveteur in 2018. “I do feel like I have to be the one constant and the one foundation in the girls’ life.”

She explained that she often schedules studio time around naps and evenings, adding, “You just find a way to fit it all in.”

She and Johnson married in Hawaii in 2019.

After more than a decade together, Hashian and Johnson married on Aug. 18, 2019, in Hawaii.

Johnson has repeatedly described the ceremony as intentionally private. In WSJ. Magazine, he said, “There was no press, no paparazzi. No one knew. I was shocked but so grateful. My life is so loud and noisy; the fact that it was quiet was a big win.”

He echoed that sentiment during a September 2023 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, saying, “It was so private, and there were maybe 10 people with our babies. It was just the best wedding.”

She has spoken about valuing privacy.

Hashian has emphasized the importance of maintaining privacy, particularly because of Johnson’s public life. In a 2017 interview with Vydia, she explained why she prefers to stay largely out of the spotlight.

“Since my man spends much of his life in front of a camera, I’m a little more reserved with stepping out and being ‘out there’ as much,” she said, per Parade. “It just gives us balance, and makes you appreciate privacy and a ‘normal’ life even more.”

In January 2026, she joined Johnson for a rare Golden Globes appearance.

Hashian and Johnson stepped out together for a rare date night at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards. During the red carpet show, Johnson told Entertainment Tonight, “I’ve got my beautiful wife with me, and I’m lucky.”
