Raiders Have Named Their Price for Maxx Crosby: Report

Have the Raiders placed Maxx Crosby on the trade block?

The messaging this week from the GM and head coach was that the Raiders want Crosby back next year (and that’s probably true), but according to NBC Sports’ Mike Florio, the Raiders have named a price for their All Pro defender.

“Will the Raiders trade defensive end Maxx Crosby? Yes, if they get what they want for him,” Florio reported this week at Pro Football Talk.

“Per a league source, the Raiders are looking for two first-round picks and a player for the 28-year-old edge rusher. That’s what the Cowboys got for Micah Parsons in August, with the player being defensive lineman Kenny Clark. The quality of player the Raiders want wasn’t specified. Presumably, it’s a starting-caliber contributor.”

”Another factor surely will be the position of the first-round pick. Two ones from a perennial playoff team are obviously not the same as two first-rounders from a chronic also-ran. Still, it shows that there’s a price. That Crosby isn’t untradeable. That a deal will happen if a team makes an offer the Raiders will accept.”

For what it’s worth, Florio isn’t the first to suggest the Raiders would take two first-round picks and a player for Crosby.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter hinted at the cost last week.

Earlier this week, Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter said many around the league believe Crosby is available based on conversations with the decision makers in Las Vegas.

“The mood around the entire NFL is [that] Maxx is available,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast on Wednesday.

“Of course, the Raiders are going to say [they] expect him back… he’s a great player. I expect John Spytek to say [he’ll be back]. I think John Spytek does want him back. I expect Klint Kubiak to say that. I don’t think the issues are with Klint. I don’t even really think they are with [Spytek] if you want me to be blunt with you, [but] I’m not going to get into any more details.”

“If I am the Raiders, I am doing everything possible to fix this. This is Hondo Carpenter’s opinion. There’s only two people who can fix this. Maxx Crosby and Tom Brady. I don’t think an agent can fix it. I don’t think Mark Davis can. Mark and Maxx are great. That’s what I think.”

There is still time for the Raiders and Crosby to come together, but it seems like the sides have a lot to sort out if that’s going to happen.

According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, Crosby could be dealt sooner than later, and it could happen as soon as next week.

“I would say it is fair to assume that the Raiders are getting many calls about Maxx Crosby,” Pelissero said on the Rich Eisen Show on Thursday.

“You heard what John Spytek said in this room. He expects Maxx to be back, great relationship, texting and talking. We have not heard from Maxx Crosby since that session. Maxx has many ways on social media and podcasts to potentially respond.”

“I would say the Raiders don’t need to make calls. They will get calls on Maxx Crosby. Is there a world where Maxx Crosby gets traded in the next 7 to 10 days? I believe there is,” Pelissero continued.

“We’re not there yet in terms of a deal actually getting done, but almost every player in the NFL has a price… To me, [the Crosby situation] tracks toward push this as far as you can, maximize your leverage by saying we’re going to keep the guy here, see what type of calls you get. I’m not aware of the Raiders calling anyone. I do believe that they are getting calls, and I do believe there’s a possibility of Maxx Crosby being traded sometime between now and the start of the league year.”
