Canadian Hindu Group Warns of Escalating Temple Attacks, Intimidation by Pro-Khalistan Extremists

Ottawa, Feb.— The Hindu Canadian Foundation (HCF) has raised alarm over what it describes as a pattern of escalating harassment and intimidation targeting Hindu Canadians, temples, and Indian diplomatic officials across the country.

In a statement, the foundation said pro-Khalistan elements have repeatedly exploited the right to protest to target Hindu communities and places of worship, often invoking free expression while engaging in what it called aggressive and divisive tactics.

The HCF alleged that incidents initially focused on Indian consulates in Canada but have since expanded to include threats against Hindu Canadians and their religious institutions. The group also cited recent campaigns directed at senior Canadian political leaders, including Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Prime Minister Mark Carney.

“These actions cross a clear line,” the foundation said. “While peaceful protest is a cornerstone of Canadian democracy, bullying, threats, and extremism that target elected leaders, multicultural communities, or religious sites have no place in our society.”

The statement further claimed that extremist groups have “weaponised the narrative around India” in ways that unfairly vilify the country of origin for many Hindu Canadians, fostering division rather than dialogue.

The HCF also referenced what it described as intimidation efforts extending to members of Parliament and local leaders, including British Columbia Premier David Eby, and raised concerns about threats to democratic institutions such as the Parliament of Canada.

Calling the trend “bullying and growing extremism,” the foundation urged federal, provincial, and municipal governments to take decisive action to safeguard public safety and preserve social harmony.

In its statement, the HCF also expressed support for Prime Minister Carney’s ongoing official visit to India, followed by trips to Australia and Japan, describing the tour as an important opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations, diversify trade partnerships, and expand economic opportunities for Canadians.

“Hindu Canadians and other multicultural groups have long advocated for renewed and constructive engagement between Canada and other vibrant democracies with deep historical, cultural, and economic connections,” the foundation said, emphasizing the contributions of Canadians of Indian heritage to the country’s social and economic fabric.
