‘The Astronaut’
In the sci-fi thriller, Kate Mara plays an astronaut who had a rough landing coming home from a space mission and recuperates at a remote house set up by her dad, a high-powered general (Laurence Fishburne). She begins to have strange visions, notices strange wounds on her body and wonders if something followed her back to Earth, all before one very twisty ending.

‘Blue Moon’
Ethan Hawke snagged a best actor Oscar nomination as famed lyricist Lorenz Hart in this lively character study. Richard Linklater reimagines the 1943 premiere afterparty of “Oklahoma!” where a newly sober Hart tries to keep some semblance of pride obsessing over college-age Elizabeth (Margaret Qualley) and toasting old partner Richard Rodgers (Andrew Scott).

‘The Bluff’
It’s very clear, by the way she wrecks a whole bunch of buccaneers, that Priyanka Chopra Jonas is firmly entrenched in her action-heroine era. In this action-packed and gory pirate tale, Ercell (Jones) is a Caribbean woman living in paradise until a ruthless captain (Karl Urban) she knows from way back shows up seeking gold and revenge.

‘Dead of Winter’
You’re not prepared for Judy Greer as a murderous villain. Emma Thompson stars in the thriller as a grieving Minnesota widow who travels to a favorite ice fishing spot to spread her husband’s ashes, runs afoul of a desperate, violent couple (Greer and Marc Menchaca) and tries to save the young woman (Laurel Marsden) they kidnapped.

‘In the Blink of an Eye’
Longtime Pixar director Andrew Stanton (“Finding Nemo,” “WALL-E”) turns to live-action with this ambitious sci-fi drama. The film tells three connected stories of human resilience told across millennia, centering on a caveman family, a modern-day couple (Daveed Diggs and Rashida Jones) and an astronaut (Kate McKinnon) in the far-flung future.

‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’
Bill Condon’s immersive adaptation of the Kander and Ebb musical stars Diego Luna and fab newcomer Tonatiuh as political prisoners in Argentinian circa 1983. They pass the time in jail with the story of an old film, a movie-within-the-movie featuring Jennifer Lopez in dual roles as a fashion editor in love and the mysterious Spider Woman.

‘Paul McCartney: Man on the Run’
How do you follow being part of the biggest band in the world? Director Morgan Neville (“Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”) tackles the post-Beatles life of Paul McCartney. The movie digs into the Fab Four breakup, McCartney starting the group Wings with wife Linda, but also him dealing with his Beatles legacy and relationship with John Lennon.

‘The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants’
Good news: SpongeBob (voiced by Tom Kenny) wakes up one morning and is excited to find out he’s 36 clams tall – which means he’s finally a “big guy”! ‘Urchin’
Harris Dickinson turns in a confident directorial debut with this thoughtful British drama.
