The Elephants in demonstration, the Lions reassure themselves
In Dakar, Côte d’Ivoire is undoubtedly the team in shape for this start of the campaign. After having defeated Senegal on the first day, the Elephants enjoyed a second prestigious victory against the DR Congo (96-59). However, the Leopards had taken the best start by winning the first quarter. But the Ivorian reaction was overwhelming: by putting on the warm-up blue, Nisré Zouzoua’s teammates (15 points and 2 rebounds) completely stifled their opponents to give themselves a victory of 37 points.
For their part, Senegal could not afford a second defeat in a row at home. Back to the wall, the Lions brilliantly redeemed themselves by dominating Madagascar (99-66). Carried by their audience and with the arrival of Brancou Badio (21 points, 4 rebounds and 3 passes), the Senegalese made the hierarchy respect to move back into second position in the group, just behind the Ivorian leader.
Angola and Mali on their way
On the Alexandria side, logic was respected for the leaders of group D. Angola cooled the room by taking over a catchy formation from Egypt (83-72). Childe Dundao scored 27 points for 4 rebounds and 4 assists. A solid victory for the Palancas Negras who confirm their status as favorites and their rise to power.
Mali also remains unbeaten in this qualifying window. The Eagles defeated Uganda (84-73) after a masterly match. With two victories in two matches, Malians and Angolans dominate the debates and now prepare for the final of this group this Sunday. On the other hand, it is the soup with a grimace for the host country, Egypt, which is still chasing its first success. The Pharaohs will have one last chance to make up for it at home this Sunday against the Uganda Silverbacks.
