Georgetown at St. John’s picks and predictions
Prediction
St. John’s 81, Georgetown 65
No interest; PASS.
SJU has won the last 2 series meetings ATS. The Red Storm’s margin of cover in the Dec. 31 game was 4/5 points but that was only after a garbage-time 14-5 run by the Hoyas to finish the game. Since Feb. 7, GU has gone 2-4 ATS. SJU is 10-5 ATS over its last 15 games.
St. John’s bounced back from its Feb. 25 clunker vs. UConn and has been playing at a high level, especially on defense, over recent weeks.
Georgetown will be without G KJ Lewis. The Hoyas’ leading scorer (14.9 points per game) and a solid presence at both ends, he is expected to miss the rest of the season due to a left ankle injury sustained on Feb. 24.
Look for the home team to leverage significant advantages in rebounds, turnovers and free-throw opportunities. ST. JOHN’S -16.5 (-115) is a solid play.
The Under is 8-4 across GU’s last 12 games and has hit in 5 straight SJU contests. In 4 of those last 5 SJU games, the Under margin was in double digits.
Georgetown was sped up too much in their Saturday loss to Xavier. The slower-than-average Hoyas may well dial things slower yet without Lewis. SJU plays fast but with elite defensive skills.
The scoring mix may not include too many triples, as a 3s are not a staple for either side.
The UNDER 149.5 (-115) is the leverage side of this one.
