The Minnesota Vikings are expected to release defensive lineman Jonathan Allen, sources told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Allen signed a three-year, $60-million deal with Minnesota in 2025. Minnesota is currently more than $40 million over the salary cap, and the move will save the Vikings $6.53 million, according to Over the Cap.
The 31-year-old suited up in all 17 regular-season games in his only campaign with the Vikings, recording 68 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He played 75.9% of defensive snaps, the highest rate among Minnesota defensive linemen in 2025.
Vikings veterans Javon Hargrave and Aaron Jones were reportedly informed that they will be released as well. Minnesota is also reportedly shopping pass-rusher Jonathan Greenard, who carries a $22.6-million cap hit in 2026.
The Commanders selected Allen in the first round of the 2017 draft. The Alabama product spent the first eight years of his career in Washington.
