Looks like a movie is coming. The Game of Thrones television universe is rapidly expanding, now onto theatrical with a feature film currently in development — this is for all of us who truly needed a big screen to see the Battle of Winterfell. “Page Six Hollywood” reported that Andor and House of Cards writer Beau Willimon will tackle the Game of Thrones film with an initial script already turned in to Warner Bros. Aside from Willimon’s involvement, there’s no details on who is attached to direct.

A Game of Thrones movie has been discussed as a possibility since the original series was still on air. And in a recent profile with A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin, The Hollywood Reporter wrote that Warner Bros. was actively looking to develop a spin-off series or a “mammoth Dune-sized feature film” of the first Aegon Targaryen and his and his sisters’ conquest of Westeros after leaving their homeland of Valyria. It’s the creation of the Iron Throne, baby!

If Willimon’s script is actually this Targaryen project, then who could resist telling that story on the biggest screen possible — certainly not David Ellison, who seems eager to get into the library of franchise riches anyways.
