Flames receiving interest in Whitecloud, Coleman as deadline nears

The Calgary Flames are receiving heavy interest in defenceman Zach Whitecloud and forward Blake Coleman with just over 24 hours to go until the NHL trade deadline, according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger.
Dreger reports Whitecloud has upwards of 15 teams interested in him, but the Flames will need to be blown away by an offer to actually move him given that he’s crucial to their young defensive core.
On the Coleman front, Dreger says the Flames are not yet receiving offers they deem good enough to move him. Dreger estimates it is slightly more likely the Flames do not trade him at this point.
No surprise Zach Whitecloud has a large audience of teams circling. 15 or more. Flames need to be blown away by an offer to trade him. He’s key in helping their young D. Tons of interest in Coleman. Offers aren’t good enough. 40-60 he’s traded at this point.

Whitecloud, 29, has two more seasons after this one remaining on his six-year, $16.5 million contract that carries a $2.75 million cap hit. He has two goals and 11 points in 59 games in 2025-26.
Whitecloud was acquired by the Flames along, with two draft picks and defenceman Abram Wiebe, from the Vegas Golden Knights in last month’s Rasmus Andersson trade.
The 34-year-old Coleman has 13 goals and 22 points in 48 games this season, his fifth in Calgary since signing a six-year contract in July of 2021. He is signed through next season at $4.9 million a year.
On Wednesday, the Flames traded defenceman MacKenzie Weegar to the Utah Mammoth in exchange for three 2026 second-round picks, prospect Jonathan Castagna and defenceman Olli Maata.
Calgary enters play Thursday second-last in the Pacific Division at 24-29-7, 12 points out of the final playoff spot.
