Canucks Recall Defenceman Cole Clayton From AHL

After trading Tyler Myers to the Dallas Stars and moving Pierre-Olivier Joseph to IR, the Vancouver Canucks have filled their gap on defence by calling up depth defender Cole Clayton. The defenceman has yet to make his NHL debut but could potentially do-so with the Canucks if he slots into their lineup in the coming days.
Clayton was one of three pieces to head Vancouver’s way in the Kiefer Sherwood trade conducted in early January, with the others being two second-round picks in 2026 and 2027. Prior to the trade, Clayton had scored two goals and three assists in 33 games with the San Jose Sharks’ AHL-affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda.

Since joining the Canucks organization, Clayton has put up two assists in 16 games with the Abbotsford Canucks. The defenceman has moved up and down the lineup for Abbotsford, playing predominantly on their third-pairing with Sawyer Mynio before recently being moved up to the first and second with Jimmy Schuldt and Nikolai Knyzhov respectively.
Vancouver’s next game takes place after the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline. The deadline will pass on March 6 at 12:00 pm PT, with the Canucks taking on the Chicago Blackhawks at 5:30 pm PT later on in the day.
