Why Jake Knapp withdrew from Arnold Palmer Invitational at last minute

The Arnold Palmer Invitational getting underway Thursday on the PGA Tour has a loaded field.
Turns out, though, that it’ll be missing one surprise absence: Jake Knapp, who withdrew before his tournament got underway.
The news came as a surprise. Knapp wasn’t in last week’s Cognizant Classic, but he had played the week before at The Genesis Invitational.
In fact, Knapp has been on fire. These are his last five results, from least recent to most recent:
- Sony Open – T11
- Farmers Insurance Open – T5
- WM Phoenix Open – 8
- Pebble Beach Pro-Am – T8
- The Genesis Invitational – 6
But this week, Knapp won’t get a chance to try and follow that up.
Why did Jake Knapp withdraw?
Jake Knapp was announced as a WD by PGA Tour Communications at 11:50 a.m. ET on Thursday, but no reason was given.
He was replaced at his tee time by Haotong Li.
There likely won’t be further immediate follow-up on the reason here. Golfers withdraw from tournaments for a variety of reasons.
Whenever Knapp attends a new tournament, the media will get a chance to ask him. He could also share his thoughts on social media in the days ahead.
For now, all that’s known is that Knapp, in a late change, won’t be golfing this weekend.
