Join Alexander Armstrong on an eye-opening passage through India

Armstrong also settled Winston Churchill’s unpaid bar tab at the elegant Bangalore Club in Bengaluru.

“He owes me one!” he says.

When pressed for highlights, Armstrong cites working a shift at a family-run silk emporium in Ramanagara. And the food.

“Indian food is without question my favourite cuisine on Earth [so] I rolled up my sleeves and tucked in,” he says. “This time we ate freely and deliciously from every conceivable menu and everything was exceptional.”

The series follows on from Armstrong’s previous TV adventures in Iceland, South Korea, and Sri Lanka. Like those programmes, it blends humour, history, and hard truths to illuminate the landscapes and cultures he travels through. But in a nation that is altogether more chaotic, more colourful, and barely standing still.

Alexander Armstrong in India premieres on 5 at 8:00 p.m., Thursday, 5 March.
