First Alert 6 Weather Day: First round of strong storms tonight, stronger chance Friday evening

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Friday is still a First Alert 6 Weather Day due to the potential for two rounds of severe weather.

The first round would likely develop shortly before midnight west of the metro tonight. Storms will move eastward impacting the metro shortly after midnight. A few storms could become severe with downpours, lightning, gusty winds and some hail. The best chance for strong storms will be after midnight through the Friday morning commute.

These will be scattered storms so it’s likely that some of us will miss out on rain with these.
Overnight into early Friday(First Alert 6)
By mid to late morning, we’ll be able to clear some, warm and recharge the atmosphere before the next round of storms later that evening. It will be windy with south gusts up to 45 mph possible helping to send our highs into the 60s that afternoon.

The evening storms that develop have the potential for wind gusts, large hail and a tornado or two as they move ESE into the evening. The most likely window for these would be 3pm-8pm. The greatest tornado threat is likely to be in our southeast counties and farther south into Kansas and Missouri.

The storms will move out fairly quickly and the overnight hours will be quiet heading into the weekend.
This weekend will be near perfect as both days will be warm, 50s on Saturday then 70s on Sunday. The only hassle will be gusty winds on Sunday from the south-southwest reaching up to 35 mph.
