Packers’ Rashan Gary announces departure

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Defensive end Rashan Gary announced Friday he’s leaving the Green Bay Packers.

Gary made the announcement on his Instagram account, thanking his supporters and his family. By 1 p.m., he deleted the post.

“The opportunity to represent Green Bay and Packers Nation across the country and around the world is something I will never forget. Like all chapters in life, this one has come to an end.”

The edge rusher didn’t mention other teams but said he’s “on to my next stop,” “nowhere done yet,” and “can’t wait.”

About the same time the Instagram post was deleted, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on X that Gary has not been traded or released and all options were on the table, according to his source.

Earlier this week, we reported Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has a dilemma with Gary.

Action 2 Sports wrote that one of Gutekunst’s defining traits was his willingness to part ways with players too early than too late.

Releasing Gary could save the Packers about $20 million under the salary cap. Gary recorded 7.5 sacks in the first 7 games but went dry the rest of the season.

“Sometimes with pass rushers, there’s an ebb and flow to that as far as production goes. It was with sacks. But he was impactful towards the second half of the season,” Gutekunst countered. “Rashan’s got all the talent in the world, and he’s produced at a high level for us since he’s been here. And we would expect that next year as well.”
