A.J. Brown trade decision coming soon: Eagles or Patriots in 2026?

It looks like the A.J. Brown trade speculation will be coming to an end sooner rather than later.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday night that it “certainly seems” like Brown will be playing for one of two teams in 2026: the Philadelphia Eagles or the New England Patriots.

Rapoport added that an answer to that question is “likely coming soon.”

The Brown trade saga added another layer when the Buffalo Bills traded for Chicago Bears wide receiver D.J. Moore on Thursday afternoon. The Bills, in need of a top receiver for quarterback Josh Allen, were one of the teams in the mix for Brown. Now, they’re out.

The timing of all of this is important. Free agency starts on Monday, and it would be ideal if the Eagles had all this figured out beforehand. Brown potentially moving on has significant cap implications, and a trade will affect how the Eagles allocate their funds.

Most Eagles fans don’t want to lose Brown, the three-time All-Pro receiver, and general manager Howie Roseman is in the same boat.

“When we talk about getting back to a Super Bowl and winning a championship, that’s really a credit to the amount of players we have who can play at an incredibly high level,” Roseman said at the NFL Scouting Combine last week. “A.J. is one of those guys.”

And yet, trade rumors have followed Brown really since October. The 28-year-old star receiver showed his frustrations throughout the season, and there’s been enough reporting around the issue to believe that Roseman is listening to offers on Brown.

Earlier this week, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that the Eagles have a high price tag on Brown — a “Quinnen Williams-type” of price tag. Williams, the All-Pro defensive tackle, was traded from the Jets to the Cowboys for a first-rounder, a second-rounder and a player.

Moore, a good receiver but not better than Brown, being sent to the Bills in exchange for a second-round pick is good for the Eagles in terms of Brown’s valuation.

We’ll find out soon if the Patriots meet the Eagles’ asking price — or if Brown stays in Philadelphia for the 2026 season.
