Saturday Night Live cast member Colin Jost marked a milestone this weekend, by appearing in his 300th segment/sketch.
That’s according to Jon Schneider and Mike Murray of LateNighter’s podcast partner, The Saturday Night Network, which tracks sketch appearances across the long-running comedy series’ history.
Jost hit the 300 mark with this week’s Cold Open, in which his SecDef Pete Hegseth performed a keg stand before briefing reporters on the U.S. military’s ongoing bombing of Iran.

Jost is the 61st cast member overall to pass the 300-sketch threshold, an honor he shares with five other current SNL cast members: James Austin Johnson (who hit the mark December 21), Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, and, of course, Kenan Thompson (whose 23 seasons on the show put him at the top of the list with more than 1,800 sketch appearances).
Birthday girl Sarah Sherman is poised to appear in her own 300th later tonight; LateNighter will keep you updated.
Coming off a stint writing for Nickelodeon’s short-lived animated series Kappa Mikey, Jost joined NBC’s SNL in 2005, as a writer. He was upped years later to writing supervisor, and then co-head writer. During that span, he’d pop up time to time in sketches. It wasn’t until March 2014 that he was tapped to succeed Seth Meyers as “Weekend Update” co-anchor, sharing the news desk with Cecily Strong. (Michael Che replaced Strong in the September 2014 Season 40 premiere.)
Of Jost’s 300 SNL segment appearances, 245 came via “Update” (including three that pre-dated his run as co-anchor). His ongoing, “Update”-driven tally has been enhanced this season by his recurring portrayal of Hegseth, which he debuted in October’s opener.
For comparison’s sake, “Update” co-anchor Che entered the March 7 episode with 262 segment appearances, since he tends to appear in fewer sketches and pre-tapes. (His most recent pre-tape, the now-infamous “Tourette’s,” was cut at dress and doesn’t count toward Che’s SNL career total.)
