Eva Mendes Shared This Hilarious Video Call from Ryan Gosling to SNL’s Mikey Day

How to Watch

Watch Saturday Night Live Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

It’s official: Ryan Gosling and longtime Saturday Night Live cast member Mikey Day have amazing chemistry — even when they’re not performing together as men who resemble a certain animated duo.

In a February 14 video chat shared by Gosling’s wife, actress Eva Mendes, the two actors’ bromance is on full display — and fans can’t get enough of it. At the top of their convo, Gosling said he just wanted to wish his buddy Day a happy “Pal-entine’s Day.” But things quickly went off the rails when Day realized the chat was in fact a thinly-veiled attempt at promoting Gosling’s upcoming movie, Project Hail Mary.

“Happy PALentine’s Day to @mikeyfuntime and all the other bro homies out there! 😂♥️,” Mendes captioned.

Ryan Gosling’s wife Eva Mendes shared his video (likely because he has no Instagram)

Watch Ryan Gosling’s hilarious video call with Mikey Day here.

The conversation — with both stars clearly “in” on the joke — is so well-acted (save for some typical Gosling breaks, of course) that you’d think this was an honest-to-goodness candid video chat between the real-life friends.

“Ryan, what up, dude? You’re hosting SNL again, I’m so excited!” Day said at the start of the video, referring to Gosling’s hosting gig scheduled for March 7. “Beavis and Butt-head 2, perhaps?”

“Perhaps. But before that, I’m actually calling not to talk about work, but just to say happy Palentine’s Day, I love you,” Gosling said.

“…Okay,” Day deadpanned, after a confused few moments of silence.

From there, the chat devolved as Gosling pivoted to his real reason for calling — promoting his upcoming film in the form of greeting cards and random Project Hail Mary plot points that Day would have no reference point for.

“Sorry, what is this?” Day finally asked. “Is this like a marketing thing for your movie or something?”

“Yeah, but you were excited, right? You were saying, it comes out on March 20,” Gosling said, keeping up the joke.

“I did not say that,” Day shot back flatly.

The full conversation is well worth watching, and serves a perfect amuse-bouche ahead of Gosling’s March 7 SNL hosting gig, which will mark the star’s fourth time as host.

Mikey Day also helped Ryan Gosling promote The Fall Guy

It wasn’t the first time Day has helped his pal(entine) promote one of his films. On the heels of their viral “Beavis and Butt-Head” sketch from Gosling’s Season 49 episode, the two put on their insane, Emmy-winning makeup to revive the duo on the red carpet of Gosling’s The Fall Guy. They even badgered his costar, Emily Blunt, in character.

Day called Gosling “my prince” during a November 2025 interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “Even as Beavis he’s beautiful, right?” We can’t disagree.
