Red Wings get promising news about injury to Dylan Larkin

Detroit – It sounds as if the Red Wings – and Dylan Larkin – probably escaped a potentially huge setback on their season.

Coach Todd McLellan said after Saturday’s practice that Larkin will join the Wings on their upcoming four-game road trip, but will not play Sunday in New Jersey. After that, the Wings will take the situation day-to-day.

Larkin fell awkwardly midway in the third period of Friday’s 3-1 loss to Florida, with his right leg bending in a sharp, unnatural way. Larkin had difficulty getting up and skated off the ice and right to the locker room, but he suffered no structural damage to the leg.

With Larkin unable to play, the Wings Saturday called up forward Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, who opened the season in Detroit was eventually sent back to Grand Rapids. Brandsegg-Nygard has been one of the American League’s hottest scorers in the last couple of weeks.

Newly acquired forward David Perron took part in Saturday’s practice but remains approximately two weeks from getting into a game, after having sports hernia surgery in January.

McLellan said defenseman Justin Faulk, acquired Friday, will join the team in New Jersey and is expected to be in the Wings’ lineup. Faceoff for Sunday’s game is 7 p.m. (ESPN).
