Report: Jets acquiring Minkah Fitzpatrick from Dolphins

A playmaker in the secondary is heading to New York.

The Jets are acquiring safety Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Dolphins in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday.

As part of the trade, Fitzpatrick is inking a three-year, $40-million extension with the Jets.

The 29-year-old has been one of the league’s top safeties since being selected in the first round of the 2018 draft.

A five-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-Team All-Pro, Fitzpatrick totalled 21 interceptions – four returned for TDs – in eight seasons split between the Dolphins and Steelers.

The trade marks the second big move made by Miami hours ahead of the legal tampering period opening at noon ET on Monday, with the team releasing starting QB Tua Tagovailoa in a move that costs $99 million in dead cap.

The Jets, meanwhile, were armed with the fifth-most cap space in the league prior to the deal.
