Mitchell Trubisky, former 1st round QB, signing with Titans per report

Per a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms on a free agent contract with veteran quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, a former first-round pick who steps in as a mentor for young passer Cam Ward.

Trubisky previously worked with Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll when the pair were in Buffalo.

Trubisky, 31, has been in the NFL since the Chicago Bears picked him in the first round in 2017. He’s 31-26 lifetime as a starter, with most of those starts coming in his first four years in Chicago. In the years since, he’s bounced around backup jobs between Buffalo and Pittsburgh. He started five games with Pittsburgh in 2022-23 and has only appeared in spot duty since then.

In his career, Trubisky has thrown for 13,028 yards and 78 touchdowns with 48 interceptions. He’s only attempted 61 passes over the last two seasons, throwing for 492 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions in mop-up duty behind MVP passer Josh Allen.

Trubisky joins a Titans quarterback room that also features Ward and Will Levis. Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi has spoked extensively about the team’s preference toward adding a veteran backup quarterback behind Ward this offseason.

Other free agent quarterbacks who were available and on the market this offseason include former Titans draft pick Malik Willis, who inked a deal to be the new starter in Miami, as well as big name veterans like Joe Flacco, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Kyler Murray, Tua Tagovailoa, Geno Smith and Aaron Rodgers.
