‘Significant rainfall’ in Toronto’s weather forecast with up to 40 mm expected
CP24’s meteorologist Bill Coulter provides an update on weather conditions in Toronto and parts of the GTA.
Torontonians might want to dust off their umbrellas as a special weather statement is in effect for “significant rainfall” Tuesday night.
In the weather advisory, Environment Canada says between 20 to 40 millimetres of rain is in the forecast and is expected to drench Toronto through Wednesday. Areas that are more prone to thunderstorms may see more rain, the statement adds.
The national agency has issued advisories all across southern Ontario, from as far south as Windsor to as east as Cornwall.
“A series of low-pressure systems will lead to significant rainfall across parts of southern Ontario. Heavy downpours may cause flash floods and water pooling on roads,” the statement reads, adding that the statements may turn to rainfall warnings.
Parts of central Ontario and the Bruce Peninsula are also forecast to have a “prolonged period of freezing rain,” with an advisory for Petawawa, Ont. saying up to 10 millimetres of rainfall could drizzle the area.
A wild temperature swing is also expected to come at the end of the week after mild and sunny conditions kick off the start of the work week.
Toronto is expected to see a high of 13 C during the day Tuesday, with temperatures dipping down to 5 C by the evening.
The temperature is forecast to remain in the double digits on Wednesday at 11 C before dropping to -3 C by the evening, and a 60 per cent chance of flurries or rain showers.
But an abrupt shift in temperature will come on Thursday and Friday, which will see the mercury drop to 1 C on each day respectively. Flurries are also possible on Thursday and Friday, the national weather agency notes.
“March can be a moody month. Sometimes it offers a taste of the warmer weather ahead. Often it presents that tease before a return to winter’s wrath. Such will be the case for this week’s forecast,” CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter said Monday
“Enjoy the tease of mid-spring weather while it’s here. But don’t put away the snow gear just yet.”
