Kim Kardashian is known to own a multitude of rare Hermès handbags, but apparently her daughter was once permitted from acquiring one. In her newsletter “Back Row,” journalist Amy Odell detailed the shopping snafu involving Kardashian and Kanye West’s eldest child, North.
Odell interviewed a former employee of the Hermès boutique in Beverly Hills, who spoke with her on the condition of anonymity.

“Not every celebrity got what they wanted,” the salesperson said of her time working at the store.
“Kanye West and Kim Kardashian wanted a black Mini Kelly bag for North or something like that. And Hermès said no,” the insider revealed.
“I have no idea why, but we were like, ‘Oh, wow.’ I think at that point it goes through corporate, because if someone who’s that high profile wants something, then obviously they’re going to be photographed in it — and they don’t want just anyone photographed in it,” they added.

“So you’d call the press office and be like, ‘Hey, so and so wants a handbag.’ And they’d usually say, ‘Cool.’ But for some reason they didn’t want North West to have an alligator Mini Kelly.”
Hermès bags made from exotic skins like alligator cost more than the model. An alligator Mini Kelly usually retails for around $80,000 on the resale market. Hermès famously doesn’t advertise the retail pricing of their handbags, which are typically only allowed to be purchased by repeat customers of the brand, per The Telegraph.

North has touted an Hermès bag before: back in 2019, she carried a white version of the coveted purse while stepping out with her mom in New York City.
Kardashian also shares three other children—Saint, Psalm, and Chicago—with her ex-husband. She and Kanye were married from 2014 to 2022.
