Bills Face Tough Prediction on Joey Bosa at Start of Free Agency

The Pats could get some reinforcement on the EDGE if unable to keep K’Lavon Chaisson

After one disappointing season together, the Buffalo Bills may not get a chance for a redemption season with edge rusher Joey Bosa.

The Bils signed the veteran last season in the hopes of shoring up their inconsistent pass rush, but Bosa brought only mixed results. He had a mix of strong performances with some costly miscues, including one late in the team’s playoff loss to the Denver Broncos.

As free agency for a new NFL season is slated to begin, the Bills could be set to lose Bosa to an NFC contender.

Bills Set to Lose Joey Bosa

In his prediction of the top NFL free agents, Fox Sports reporter Greg Auman predicted that Bosa will leave the Bills, but without a significant bump in salary. Auman predicted that Bosa would not get a significant raise.

“Bosa, 30, had only five sacks in a healthy first season in Buffalo, but he did lead the NFL with five forced fumbles,” Auman wrote. “He should get a deal similar to the $12.6 million he got a year ago.”

Auman predicted that Bosa would head west, joining his brother on the San Francisco 49ers.

“With two playoff wins in 10 years in the league, might he consider taking less to join his brother Nick with the 49ers and try to make a meaningful postseason push?” Auman wrote. “Buffalo is over the cap as it is, so it might look to go younger rather than bringing Bosa back.”

Others have joined in predicting the end of Bosa’s short tenure with the Bills. Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus predicted last week that the Bills would not utilize the franchise tag, hinting that Bosa was too expensive.

“Although Joey Bosa (85.5 PFF pass-rush grade) flashed in his first year in Buffalo, his market value is well below the $27.3 million tag,” Locker wrote.

Bosa had limited impact in his one season with the Bills, generating some production as a pass rusher but struggling against the run and making some critical miscues. He had a roughing the passer penalty late against the Broncos in the playoffs, allowing them to move into field goal position on the game-winning drive.

Bills Could Look for New Pass Rusher

While the Bills have taken swings at both Bosa last year and Von Miller in 2022 in the hopes of shoring up their pass rush, one analyst believes they will turn to the NFL Draft this year. Trevor Sikkema from Pro Football Focus published a mock draft earlier this year that predicted the Bills would land Texas Tech pass rusher Romello Height.

Sikkema suggested that Height’s skills could be a boon to Buffalo’s pass rush, giving them a much-needed skill.

“Height pairs ideal length with long arms and quick hands, deploying a refined pass-rush arsenal that produced a 92.4 PFF pass-rush grade and a 22.2% pass-rush win rate in 2025 as part of Texas Tech’s dominant defensive line,” Sikkema wrote. “He’s the type of quick, finesse-oriented edge rusher the Bills are currently missing.”
