‘Tangled’ Live-Action Casts Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel

Mother Hahn knows best!

Kathryn Hahn has confirmed she will play the wicked Mother Gothel in the upcoming live-action “Tangled” film.

Speculation that the actor would take on the role of the Disney villain first popped up in January after Variety reported that she was in talks to portray Gothel, Rapunzel’s guardian. But on March 10, Hahn revealed the rumors were true by sharing a funny video on Instagram.

Hahn uploaded a joint post with Disney Studios in which she showed off her Gothel-themed outfit.

“Hey! OOTD, I just found out what that stands for. So here’s my outfit of the day,” she said before revealing a t-shirt covered with five different pictures of the animated version of Gothel from the 2010 movie, who was voiced by Donna Murphy. “Mother Gothel” was written in large gold font at the top of the tee.

“Simple jeans, glasses, t-shirt. This is easy. You know, just another day,” Hahn playfully said.

In case she wasn’t clear, Hahn wrote “OOTD, Mother Gothel” in the caption. She also changed her Instagram bio to read “mother knows best” with a mirror emoji.

“Mother Knows Best” is the song the cunning antagonist belts in the film while she tries to convince Rapunzel to stay in the tower with her and avoid exploring the dangerous outside world. Gothel and Rapunzel also stand in front of a mirror for part of the performance. Gothel reprises the song later when she discovers Rapunzel disobeyed her.

Fans in the comments immediately celebrated Hahn’s casting news.

“I HAVEN’T BEEN SO EXCITED ABOUT A DISNEY LIVE ACTION PROJECT SINCE, WELL, AGES AGO!!! OMG OMG OMG. You’re perfect for the role,” one said and included multiple clapping, flame and heart emoji.

Another cheered, “MOTHERHAHN IS OFFICIALLY MOTHERGOTHEL!!!!!!”

A third said, “We manifested this.”

Hahn joining the production follows Disney’s announcement in January that Australian actor Teagan Croft is stepping into the role of Rapunzel for the live-action flick and “Zombies” star Milo Manheim will deliver his best smolder as charming thief Eugene Fitzherbert, also known as Flynn Rider.

On Jan. 7, Disney Studios posted Croft and Manheim’s headshots on Instagram and wrote, “Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim are Rapunzel and Flynn Rider in the live-action reimagining of Disney’s Tangled. Coming only to theaters.”

Manheim also posted about the news on his Instagram. Zachary Levi, who voiced Flynn in the animated movie, gave his blessing. He commented, “Congrats, Milo! Now go do Eugene Fitzherbert proud.”

The Disney account wrote, “Here comes the smolder!”

On his Instagram story, Manheim added, “Too grateful to put into words. I will do him justice I promise.”

As for Croft, she’ll also have big shoes to fill following Mandy Moore’s portrayal in the beloved 2010 film.

But, she’s up for the challenge. Croft previously appeared in the television series “Titans,” as well as the film “True Spirit.”

While Disney has not revealed the release date for the new “Tangled,” the studio has confirmed that Michael Gracey, best known for “The Greatest Showman,” will be the director.
