Former Bears CB Nahshon Wright finds new home in free agency

Former Chicago Bears cornerback Nahshon Wright has found a new home. The Pro Bowler is signing a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the New York Jets, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Wright was a revelation during an injury-riddled season where the Bears played most of the year without Pro Bowler Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon. Wright, who started 16 regular-season games, was far from perfect in coverage, but he was also the most impactful player at taking the ball away.
Wright led the NFL with eight takeaways, including five interceptions with one returned for a touchdown. With Johnson sidelined, Wright was Chicago’s top cornerback, and his impressive performance earned him his first career Pro Bowl honors.
Last season with the Bears, Wright totaled 80 tackles, three tackles for loss, five interceptions, 11 pass breakups, one touchdown, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one QB hit.
With Wright’s departure, the Bears have a starting job to fill opposite Johnson on the outside. There are some in-house options, including Tyrique Stevenson, Terell Smith and Zah Frazier, who missed his entire rookie season. But Chicago could also turn to free agency or the 2026 NFL Draft to add another cornerback.
