Cristian Romero future in doubt as Tottenham plan summer overhaul

Venkatesham wrote: “We believe in our current squad, but must add more quality, experience and leadership to compete consistently at the highest level. Doing so requires a more proactive approach to recruitment, alongside a wage structure that supports our ambition.”
He also signalled that there will be sales, adding: “Player trading is also about knowing when to sell and being decisive about moving players on who are not part of our future. Doing so is essential to maximising value and managing our financial fair play obligations. Despite common belief, we are not immune to these rules and must carefully manage our squad development plans against them.”
Venkatesham is working with sporting director Johan Lange and Tottenham’s owners, the Lewis family, to identify a new permanent head coach, while the club have also stepped up their search for at least one new sporting director with checks made on Dougie Freedman, Paul Winstanley and Tiago Pinto.
Spurs may look to make two sporting director appointments to form a new-look football leadership team, along with Rafi Moersen, director of football operations. It remains to be seen whether Lange, who has been the target of fan criticism, would form part of that.
