Pavlovic touches the ball with his hand, Jackson scores: protests erupt during the Atalanta-Bayern Munich match.

Protests in Bergamo during Atalanta-Bayern Munich. Today, Tuesday, March 10, Atalanta hosts the Germans in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 match, a match that was also marred by a refereeing incident. Following Nicolas Jackson’s fourth German goal early in the second half, the players on the pitch and Palladino’s entire bench protested for a handball, demanding the goal be disallowed.

It all happened in the 52nd minute. A loose ball in the box was brought down by Pavlovic, who then found Jackson. The Bayern striker skipped past an opponent and fired a right-footed shot past Carnesecchi, making it 4-0 for the Bavarians. However, as the German midfielder controlled the ball, the Atalanta players complained about a handball. Footage shows the ball hitting Pavlovic’s hand, even though it was still attached to his body, but he then tamed it and passed it to Jackson.

However, after a quick VAR check, referee Eskas confirmed the on-field decision and validated the goal, thus deeming Pavlovic’s handball not punishable.
