Storm Alert Weather: Tornadoes, hail, strong winds possible as severe weather returns

Severe weather is expected late Tuesday. A Tornado Watch is in place west of Michiana, and the Storm Alert Weather Team is keeping a close eye on the developing forecast.

The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted Michiana under the threat of widespread severe weather. Our southern and western communities are under a Level 4 risk (Moderate Risk) of severe weather, while the rest of our area is placed under a Level 3 risk (Enhanced Risk) for severe weather.

Ahead of the storms, parts of the area will experience warm and humid conditions. High temperatures in the warmest spots will be in the upper-60s to low-70s.

Both a warm front and a cold front will push into our area. Some storms could develop along and ahead of the warm front as early as 6 p.m. These storms will be more cellular in nature.

Chances for widespread rain and storms will increase later tonight, around 10:00 PM and later.

All modes of severe weather are possible during this time, with primary concerns being tornadoes as well as large hail. In addition to that, heavy rain is anticipated across the area, with several inches of precipitation expected.

Rain and storms will carry into early Wednesday morning. These storms could contain gusty winds and heavy rain.

Widespread rain is expected Wednesday. Rain totals will likely exceed 1-2″ for many, causing localized flooding concerns.

Temperatures will also fall during the day Wednesday. Highs in the upper 50s will be reached very early in the morning, but colder air will filter in behind the passing cold front. Most of the day will be spent in the 40s.

Highs will be in the 40s and 50s the rest of the week and into the weekend with daily chances of rain and even some snowflakes mixing in.
