Son Heung-min has picked up yet another assist for Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) as the club’s winning streak to start this season was snapped at five at a regional tournament.
LAFC played Alajuelense of Costa Rica to a 1-1 draw in the opening leg of their round of 16 matchup at the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Champions Cup at BMO Field in Los Angeles on Tuesday (local time).
Son set up Denis Bouanga’s equalizer in the 56th minute from inside the box after Alajuelense had grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal by Alejandro Bran in the 44th minute.
The Korean superstar now has one goal and seven assists in six matches in all competitions this season.
LAFC had won their first five matches of this season — three in a row to kick off the Major League Soccer season and two straight wins at the CONCACAF Champions Cup — prior to the draw.
LAFC and Alajuelense will play their second leg at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica, next Tuesday.
LAFC dominated play in the opening leg. They had a massive 31-4 edge in shot attempts and outshot their opponent 13-3.
