Severe storms likely Wednesday

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) -Temperatures surged into the upper 70s on Tuesday, setting the stage for a few overnight thunderstorms and severe weather on Wednesday. Our First Alert Weather Days continue for late Tuesday night through Wednesday evening. The Storm Prediction Center has placed southern Illinois in a level 2 of 5 risk for overnight storms that may produce hail. For Wednesday, the level 2 of 5 risk covers the eastern half of the Tri-State. Severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes will be possible from early afternoon into the evening hours. Temperatures will rise into the lower 70s.
After the storms move out on Wednesday night, cooler air will filter in for Thursday. Lows will drop into the lower 30s Thursday morning and only top out around 53 in the afternoon with sunny skies. Friday and Saturday will bring milder air back into the region with partly sunny skies and highs in the low to middle 60s.
Sunday’s high will climb to 70 just ahead of a cold front. Thunderstorms will be possible again by Sunday afternoon and evening. As the sharply colder air noses in, rain may briefly mix with snow early Monday morning. The week will start on a frigid note with highs in the upper 30s on Monday and the middle 40s on Tuesday, 10-15 degrees colder than normal.
