Tight end Chig Okonkwo is reportedly on his way to Washington to play with the Commanders after four years with the Tennessee Titans, according to a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Okonkwo, 26, came to the Titans as a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He’s been the Titans’ most reliable pass catching tight end since being drafted, making 42 starts over that period and appearing in all 68 games. He’s caught 194 passes for 2,017 yards and eight touchdowns.
Okonkwo was the Titans’ leading receiver in 2025, posting career bests with 56 catches and 560 yards to go along with two touchdowns. He ranked 15th among all NFL tight ends in receptions and 17th in receiving yards. Okonkwo is one of only six tight ends to have caught 50 or more passes in each of the last three seasons, joining the company of Travis Kelce, George Kittle, Trey McBride, Jake Ferguson and Dalton Schultz.
The Titans drafted tight end Gunnar Helm in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The duo paired together in Helm’s rookie year, with the Texas product catching 44 passes for 357 yards and two touchdowns. David Martin-Robinson, a former undrafted free agent who initially signed with the Titans in 2024, is the other tight end on roster.
Okonkwo was the final survivor from the 2020-22 draft classes that caught so much flak at the end of former general manager Jon Robinson’s reign leading the team. The last Titans draft picks to be retained on a second contract were defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and safety Amani Hooker, who were both drafted in 2019. NFL.com ranked Okonkwo as the third-best tight end on the free agent market in 2026 behind Cade Otton (Tampa Bay) and Isaiah Likely (Baltimore).
Otton is reportedly returning to Tampa on a free agent deal and Likely is reportedly reuniting with former coach John Harbaugh on the New York Giants.
