‘Bambino Fever is my lay of the day and I’m taking her on with this 10-1 shot’ – Johnny Dineen has a strong view on Thursday’s opener

Who is your banker on day three?

Johnny: I’m pretty confident Carrigmoornaspruce will run a huge race in the Ryanair Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (1.20) and I will be getting stuck in each-way at 10-1. I’m not keen on the favourite Bambino Fever at all – for reasons I reveal below – and I think Declan Queally’s mare has achieved more than her over hurdles anyway. She was second in a Grade 1 at Christmas and I can’t have her finishing out of the first three.

DJ: Ah, Johnny. You’re wrecked. You’ve been on that box in the betting ring all week and you’re lightheaded. You need a proper lie down. Bambino Fever is the banker of the week, you eejit. Anyway, the best wine is served last on Thursday with Jeriko Du Reponet in the Kim Muir (5.20). He’s head and shoulders above this lot, has the genius of Derek O’Connor on his back, will love the ground, ran a cracker at the festival last year and has been dropped to 145. What’s not to like? Some people seem to think he’s a bit of a monkey, but I think that’s harsh. He’s one of the best-handicapped horses of the whole week.

Who is your lay of the day?

DJ: I don’t think Kabral Du Mathan will stay in the Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle (3.20). He’s got so much pace, but his stamina reserves will be tested to the very limit by some proper stayers. If Annie Power couldn’t see it out with her class, this guy won’t either.
