Statistical Preview: Boston United vs Yeovil Town

Yeovil travel to Boston in their next National League fixture and will be looking to bounce back after a defeat against Scunthorpe.
Yeovil currently sit 19th in the National League and have won two of their last five games whilst Boston sit 12th and are unbeaten in four of their last five.
Andy’s Bet Club’s football analyst will break down Boston’s recent clash with Rochdale to see what the statistics suggest about how they might set up against Yeovil.
Rochdale vs Boston United
Not only did Rochdale have significantly more shots in the game, they also created the better quality chances in the game. They created an xG (expected goals) of 2.05 whilst Boston posted 0.78.
Rochdale had a lot more possession in the game (66%) and the approach from both sides played a big part in this. Rochdale focused on shorter passes with a long pass percentage of 4%, whereas Boston were three times more direct with a long pass percentage of 12%.
As well as having more possession, Rochdale were able to progress the ball through the pitch a lot better. Rochdale progressed their possession into the attacking half on 63 occasions and into the penalty area 26 times. In comparison, Boston only managed to progress possession into the attacking half on 31 occasions and into the penalty area on five occasions.
The pressing stats, measured by Passes per Defensive Action (PPDA), show that both sides were very passive in the game when out of possession. Rochdale had a PPDA of 19.1 and Boston had a PPDA of 21.9, both of which are a lot higher than the league average of 11.6.
Final Thoughts
Despite not scoring in their last outing, Boston have been dangerous in front of goal lately. In the four matches prior, they scored a combined 11 goals (2.75 per game) and found the net on six occasions when they faced promotion challengers Scunthorpe.
Not only have Boston been finding the net regularly, Yeovil have been conceding goals at a similar rate, having conceded 10 in their last five games (two per game).
Boston’s best attacking outlet this season has been experienced striker Lenell John-Lewis, who has found the back of the net 10 times already this season.
Boston have lined up with a back four for the majority of the season, but have recently switched to a 3-4-3 formation, so it will be intriguing to see how they set up against Yeovil.
