Strong winds and sudden cold snap coming to New Mexico this weekend

A strengthening storm system over the Rockies will bring increased winds across New Mexico with gusts expected to peak between 30 and 40 mph.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A strengthening storm system over the Rockies will bring increased winds across New Mexico with gusts expected to peak between 30 and 40 mph.
Winds will first increase in eastern New Mexico during the late morning and early afternoon on Saturday, with western New Mexico becoming windier later in the afternoon. Temperatures will run 15 to 20 degrees above normal, and humidity levels will be very low.
Saturday night, winds will remain strong over higher terrain, with mountain wave activity potentially bringing stronger gusts to lower elevations just east of the central mountain chain. Areas near Clines Corners could see stronger gusts early Sunday morning.
Sunday will see two cold fronts moving across New Mexico, with a Pacific front arriving first, followed by a backdoor cold front from the northeast. Very strong winds are expected statewide, with gusts between 45 and 60 mph likely across central and western New Mexico. Some areas near the central mountains could see gusts up to 70 mph.
