Women’s Golf Leads After Round One at Northern Kentucky Spring Fling

VERO BEACH, Fla.- Following the opening round of the Northern Kentucky Spring Fling on Friday, the St. John’s women’s golf team sits in first place at Sandridge Golf Club.
The Red Storm carded a 21-over, 309, during the first 18 holes in Vero Beach to sit atop the 11-team field. The Johnnies placed four golfers in the top-15 in the first round in a well-balanced performance. St. John’s paces the field with a 3.15 stroke average on the par 3’s and recorded a tournament-best 53 pars on Friday.
St. John’s was led by Pihla Pennanen, who shined over the first 18 holes to claim second place on the leaderboard. The sophomore registered a 2-over, 74, and after starting 5-over through the first eight holes flushed three birdies putts and went bogey-free over the final 10.
Laura Mizlerova checks in tied for ninth after tallying a 5-over, 77, in Vero Beach. Kelly Wu and Lily Huynh rounded out the team scoring for the Red Storm posting a 7-over, 79, good to tie for 14th place in the 64-golfer field.
The Johnnies will tee off for the second round at 11:45 a.m. Live results will be available throughout the tournament on SCOREBOARD.
