An emergency alert has been issued in Prince George, B.C., due to a gas leak that officials say poses a threat to human life.

The City of Prince George issued the alert Saturday, urging people in a residential area in the city’s Heritage neighbourhood, near the Tabor Plaza, to evacuate immediately.

According to the alert, the evacuation zone covers the area north of Fifth Avenue to Zion Lutheran Church, and east of Tabor Boulevard to west of Voyageur Drive.

Officials say people in the affected area should evacuate to Zion Lutheran Christian Church at 180 Tabor Boulevard.

The alert warns the gas leak poses a significant risk. It says if residents are unable to leave the area, call 911.
