FEMA buildings, storm shelters to open in the Heartland due to threat of severe weather

(KFVS) – Several communities in the Heartland will open FEMA buildings or storm shelter ahead of possible severe weather on Sunday, March 15.

A First Alert Action Day was issued for Sunday due to damaging wind gusts and possible tornadoes. A Wind Advisory is in effect for all of the Heartland until early Monday morning.

In addition, thousands are without power throughout the Heartland.

Missouri

According to the city of Jackson, the Jackson R-2 School District Community Safe Room is open and will stay open throughout the tornado warning. It’s located at West Lane Elementary. Residents are reminded that pets are not allowed inside the safe room. They ask that you enter through doors #1 and #2 of the shelter after school hours.

According to the Campbell Volunteer Fire Department, the elementary school storm shelter is open as a precaution. They ask residents to enter through the student parking lot at the back of the school.

According to the city of Doniphan, the Lone Star FEMA building is open for anyone who needs shelter.

According to the Butler County EMA, the Poplar Bluff R-1 School District will be opening O’Neal School and Poplar Bluff Junior High School shelters at 5 p.m.

The Cardwell Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, they will open the FEMA shelter at the school, if needed. They ask that residents enter the way you would for child drop-off and to exit south to Union Street. Click here for more guidance.

According to the City of Annapolis, the Emergency Operations Center is now open and operating at City Hall. They are also preparing to open the Annapolis First Baptist Church basement as a sheltering location, if needed.

According to the Delta R-V School District, the FEMA building is open if people need to use it.

According to the Jackson Civic Center, its tornado safe room is open for those seeking shelter. They reminded residents that per FEMA regulations, pets are not allowed inside the safe room.

According to the New Madrid County R1 School District, the FEMA shelter opened at 4 p.m. and will stay open until the severe weather has passed. Click here for storm shelter guidance.

According to the Doniphan Police Department, the FEMA building is open for anyone who needs shelter.

According to the Caruthersville Police Department, storm shelters will open if and when they are needed.

According to the Steele Police Department, the safety room at the east elementary school will be available for use.

According to Advance R-4 Schools, its FEMA safe room opened at 11 a.m. They say the first door to the left that faces School St. will be be unlocked.

The Carter County EMD says the FEMA buildings in Ellsinore and Van Buren will open at 3:30 p.m., as well as the maintenance building in Grandin. Service animals only, please.

The Scott City Police Department will open the city’s FEMA building on Sunday afternoon, March 15 due to the threat of severe weather. According to the police department, the FEMA building, located at Scott City High School, will open at 4:30 p.m. Entrance 21 is the designated entry point. They reminded residents that pets are not permitted, and this space is shared with Scott City schools.

According to Puxico R8 School, they are watching the weather forecasts and if conditions worsen and a tornado warning is issued, the FEMA shelter will be opened. Illinois

According to the Massac County EMA, the Massac County Courthouse will open its doors for anyone needing shelter from the severe weather. They plan to open around 7:30 p.m.
